St Gallen : nightlife and entertainment
Home > Tourist Guide > Table of contents > Northeast > St Gallen > Nightlife

Students attending the University of St Gallen, on a hillside campus north of town, feed what passes for the nightlife, although locals have no compunction about jumping on a train to Zürich for a better choice. Supplementing the clutch of first-run cinemas around Marktplatz, Kinok, at Grossackerstrasse 3, shows arthouse films from around the world, with cut-price tickets on Mondays. There’s live jazz nightly at Gambrinus (see above). Clubs abound: Ozon, Goliathgasse 28, is best known, with a varied range of sounds from drum’n’bass to disco, but it can get a bit rough. Jib, upstairs at Löwengasse 1, plays Latin and salsa, while Baracca, Teufenerstrasse 2, is a hugely popular all-day late-opening DJ bar. Seeger, a café at Oberer Graben 2, hosts pumping Friday and Saturday night dance parties for a youthful crowd.
